Devon Energy Streamlines Plant Safety Management with NexPrise
March 31, 2008 - Carlsbad, CA
NexPrise, Inc. (OTC BB: NXPS.OB) announced today that Devon Energy, one of the world's leading independent oil and gas exploration and production companies, is successfully managing plant/refinery changes using the NexPrise WebSpace Platform.
OSHA provides Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements for preventing or minimizing the consequences of catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable or explosive chemicals. Management of Change (MOC) is a key element of PSM, and a method of achieving improved operational integrity.
Using NexPrise, Devon has configured an MOC system which automates the management of all tasks and documentation associated with equipment or operational changes at a processing facility. The system leverages a configurable workflow process which ties together three primary safety review phases:
- Design safety reviews
- Pre-Startup Safety Reviews
- Post-Startup Safety Reviews
Each MOC review phase has an associated list of action items which must be completed and approved prior to the launch of the next review phase. Each action item may contain links to controlled reference documents stored on the NexPrise server, and is assigned to a responsible party. Assignee progress is monitored against established due dates, and assignees may upload engineering drawings and other documentation directly to the NexPrise server as they complete assigned tasks.
Key NexPrise Benefits:
- Centralized tracking of all safety-related action items associated with certain process or equipment changes
- A single controlled source of all MOC related documents
- Automatic notification of assignments and overdue tasks
- Electronic phase-based approval of all completed action items
- Real-time status reporting of all open MOC activities
- Detailed audit trails documenting compliance with standard MOC procedures
